Matthew 1:18-25 — The Saviour Who Came to Save His People From Their Sins
Immanuel International Church, New Delhi India
In this sermon, preached on the Lord’s Day just preceding Christmas, Rev. James Khongsai expounds Matthew 1:18–25, directing us to the heart of the gospel: Jesus Christ came into the world to save His people from their sins.
The message is structured around three central themes:
1. The Good News of Salvation
2. Christmas as the Fulfilment of Old Testament Prophecy
3. Christmas as “Immanuel — God with Us”
The sermon also reflects on common human attempts to deal with sin apart from Christ, viz. the tendency to overemphasize good works, to seek moral self-justification, or to look for absolution through religious or pagan rituals. Despite the festivities, traditions, and outward celebrations of Christmas, many miss out on its central truth, i.e., the forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ.
This message calls us to confront the seriousness of sin and rejoice in the grace of God revealed in the incarnation of His Son. Come and behold Christ afresh today — as the one and only Lord and Saviour, fully God and fully man, who came to redeem His people.
