Chapter 1 opens by explaining why Proverbs was written — to give wisdom, discipline, and understanding to those who seek to live rightly. Solomon immediately sets the tone by declaring that true wisdom begins with reverence for God.
The chapter also includes a warning against sinful influences, especially the temptation to join those who seek easy gain through violence or deceit. It ends with Wisdom personified as a woman, calling out in the streets, urging people to listen before destruction overtakes them.
