How We Can Be Our Best When Things Are Their Worst

Sometimes something happens

that isn’t just difficult—

it’s wrong.

Stephen experienced the ultimate form of this in Acts when he was being stoned. How did he respond?

“Then he knelt down and cried out in a loud voice, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’” (from Acts 7:60)

Without the scripture reference, many of us might confuse these with the words Jesus spoke when he was being executed.

As this was happening,

Stephen did not give himself over

to fear,

or anger,

or bitterness—

nor did he rationalize, minimize,

or deny

what was being done to him.

He remained grounded

and responded in love—

not only for himself and God,

but even toward those

who were doing this to him.

His willingness

and determination

to respond in love

kept him at his best

when things were at their worst.

I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
