Professor Joseph F. Spillane is a professor in the History department at the University of Florida. He has published Cocaine: From Medical Marvel to Modern Menace in the United States1, co-authored A History of Modern Criminal Justice, and co-edited Federal Drug Control: The Evolution of Policy and Practice and Prison Work: A Tale of Thirty Years in the California Department of Corrections. His most recent monograph, Coxsackie: The Life and Death of Prison Reform, appeared in 2014 from the Johns Hopkins University Press.
