This August 15, as the tricolour flutters across the country, remember the quiet lanes of Bengeri in Hubballi — where it begins its journey. Here, women at the Karnataka Khadi Gramodyoga Samyukta Sangha spin, weave and stitch the national flag entirely by hand, keeping alive a craft born in the freedom struggle. But with polyester flags now permitted, this tradition stands at a crossroads. In Noorakke Nooru Karnataka, we trace the journey from cotton in Bagalkot to the final stitch in Hubballi — and meet the women whose work carries the weight of history and the spirit of freedom itself.
